Animal Use Protocol Procedure

Animal use and care at UC Riverside facilities is covered by UC Riverside Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) approved Animal Use Protocols (AUP). You must obtain UC Riverside IACUC approval of your AUP application before initiating any animal research, teaching and breeding activities.

AUP applications must be submitted electronically. Send completed Animal Use Protocol (AUP) applications as e-mail attachments to monica.wicker@ucr.edu, for Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) review.  IACUC turn around time is four to six weeks.

UCR IACUC approval of AUP applications, AUP Amendments, and Annual AUP Renewals cannot be granted until the Office of the Campus Veterinarian confirms completion of the Animal Care and Use Training, and clearance of the Animal Handlers Medical Questionnaire.

Applications may be submitted at any time for IACUC review. The term of an IACUC approved AUP is three years. However, annual IACUC renewal is required.

Grant applicants are responsible for knowing the AUP requirements of the granting agency.

File an AUP Amendment if you already have an approved AUP and only need to make minor changes. AUP amendment forms must be submitted electronically.
